Jonathan started dancing 10 years ago, at the age of 20. He is one of the few competitors representing America who was actually born in the United States.
Coming from a big sports background in high school (namely basketball), it was as much of as shock to
Jonathan trains six days a week. This training includes working out in the gym, pilates, ballet, dancing, and yoga.
As of October of 2007, Jonathan is no longer dancing competitively.

Jonathan is a two-time undefeated USA pro am 10 dance champion, a three-time undefeated USA pro am Latin champion, and a two-time USA pro am American Ballroom champions. He has also won the USA Rising Star Latin Championship in 2004, and a Blackpool Rising Star Latin champion in 2003.
Jonathan has appeared on four seasons of Dancing With The Stars. The first season, he came in fourth place with partner Rachel Hunter. The second season, he came in eighth place with partner Giselle Fernandez. In the fourth season, he came in seventh place with partner Heather Mills. In the fifth season, he is partnered with Marie Osmond.

In 1997, Jonathan won the USA Rising Star American Ballroom award.

Jonathan Roberts: Anyone can learn how to dance but the winner is the one with some talent and a lot of hard work.
Jonathan Roberts: (about how he started dancing) Well, in high school I had been very involved in sports, particularly basketball. Then, I saw the Al Pacino movie Scent of a Woman, and the tango scene really struck a chord with me. I decided to try out the free ballroom lesson offered on the movie ticket stub, and I got hooked, and I've been dancing for ten years now.
