Tim Allen, who played Jonathan's father on Home Improvement, was upset when Jonathan wanted to leave the show and focus on college at the beginning of the show's last season, but he agreed to write him out. Later, Allen got angry when Jonathan spent that summer filming the movie I'll Be Home for Christmas instead of prepping for college. Jonathan did come back for one more episode, but he didn't appear in the series finale. In response to all the rumors about him being upset with Jonathan, Tim Allen says "I love Jonathan, and I loved working with him, and it felt like betrayal...I just missed the kid, that's all." They have since made up and have a good relationship to this day.
