Julia Marlow
This was a woman whose life seems as if a fairy tale, a story written she was born to, a true rags to riches story. She was born to knowing only hard work from sun up to sun down, working in the fields of Delano California. The clothes on their backs, sewn from potato sacks and a
tomato crate to share at night to sleep away the sores of the day, she and her brothers and sisters plugged on through the bronzing years. Their mother, a beautiful blue-eyed, strawberry blonde woman, still found time to tell them stories, acting out every part to bring their spirits up. Her voice could be
More heard for acres around, dancing on the breeze as she would sing her melancholy songs. Julia followed in her footsteps. Being a natural actress from a young age, she would sing and dance with her brothers and sisters, entering and winning school contests, and shining through the grim of her dust parched life.

By the age of 17 years, she joined up with a talented guitarist and his band. He was her best friend and support, and they married and had two sons. Later, she joined S.A.G. and had an extras part, going by the stage name of Deserie in the movie "The Greatest Story Ever Told." She also appeared in the series "Rat Patrol," and the series, "Voyage to The Bottom of The Sea." She did a few occasional commercials for local businesses and a few movies made, but never seen as is the Hollywood story goes. She continued dance and became a dance instructor for the Arthur Murray dance studios. She also was honored by the "Prima donna Night Club and Casino" when they created the statues that decorated their building front, the statues of the Hawaiian dancer and others were all about her and the dances she performed there. Shortly after was born another son whom she named after the hero in the movie "Helen of Troy" in the 1960s.

Settling down at the influence of her older brothers, who were strong into spirituality, she took the real life role of a housewife and seamstress, setting aside her Hollywood dreams for a while. But all the while her heart burned for the stage. She set up a class and taught Tahitian and belly dancing to a couple dozen of the women in her congregation on a regular basis. This seemed to give her an outlet.

Her children also showed signs of the acting and musical talents so she became the incognito stage mom, and she and her children signed up for anything that would get them on stage to present a skit, often times with a subject that was spiritual based, but always an audience that would laugh or gasp and applaud. Her children would put on plays or musical performances for parties that would come along, at her coaxing. Her 4th child, was born 9 years after the last, much to her surprise as the doctors had told her she would never bare another child. He was final balance to the beating heart and glory to the family. His talents showing when he had barely started crawling. Stubby fingers entwined in any guitar he could find, he knew his destiny and Julia stood by his side as she understood his dreams followed her own, like the other children.

Following her dreams again, she moved to Hawaii and was one of the ten finalist in the "1983 Mrs. Hawaii Pageant." Finally, she rejoined the acting world again in full force and acted as an extra and bit actress on more than 36 episodes of the hit show, "Magnum P.I." But being married then to a very controlling man, her 3rd marriage and the father of her 4th child, she ended up reluctantly and to her great heartbreak, turning down a few star roles offered to her. Finally leaving that marriage, she had her freedom again. Several Celebrities had become her friends and she performed in a few commercials, even one with "Magnum P.I." cast member John Hillerman. One of her most important friends was the 1962 grammy award winner for the song "A Taste of Honey," who also was performing in various episodes in guest and extras roles, Ric Marlow.

Shortly after marrying her friend Ric, and now as Mrs. Julia Marlow, she opened up her design shop "Julia of Hawaii." And to her great joy, many celebrities became steady clients including of course a few "Magnum P.I." cast members. She always spoke highly of the cast members, she
loved them all. "John Hillerman is one of the most kind and generous men I have ever met," she would say fondly, he was a sort of father image to her. She would remark how he was very loved by the cast members. Larry Mannetti, was one of her favorite, she seemed to like his youthful ambition and spirit. Tom Selleck she said was surprisingly "kind of quiet off the set, a little mysterious and a bit private," and she loved him just the same. He would have been a great choice for a husband, but Ric Marlow had won her over with his charisma and fun loving, free spirited attitude and personality. She always said, she sought love, but wanted "someone that would be good to her children and be there for them like she would be, if anything ever happened
to her." She loved her children and dealt with her share of growing pains with each one, but in the end, each one idolized her and put her on a pedestal, and all she wanted was for them to make their dreams come true too.

Julia also appears in music video with husband Ric Marlow, featuring the very talent Liberace's protege, Vince Cardell performing songs written by Ric Marlow. Some of her favorite celebrity friends in addition to the cast of Magnum P.I. have included; Tony Curtis, known for many hit
movies and father of Jamie Lee Curtis, was one whom she said was "still as handsome as ever and a wonderful painter" and "a very modest, kind and soft-spoken man in person." Tony Martinez, an actor and musician, having a major role in "The Real McCoys," he always had a big bear hug to squeeze you with and his wife became one of Julia's best friends. James MacArthur, a well of talent from a young age, known best for his role on "Hawaii 5-O," was always on the go, but still took time out to be with them at Christmas when he could. Robert and Vera Goulet ,Robert known for his rich singing voice and acting talent, have been a couple of the most real and hardworking people in show biz. They are an example of a family that has done it all, each member a successful talent. Listen when they speak and sing, they really have something to say and behind every word, a heart overflowing with goodness and love. And always dear and greatly missed will be "Bob" Robert Totten, a successful producer of many westerns and episodes of "Magnum P.I." He was always encouraging to her and proved himself a very true friend. And he even took time out of his busy schedule to critique one Julia's kid's music and continued encouraging improvement with every demo he reviewed, finally hearing the one demo that said the kid was ready to present the music to a friend of his in the music industry. "We're all always looking for that next opportunity, and it's right behind the next door, just be ready to open it," he would say.

Christmas at the Marlow House, one time called affectionately, "Camp Marlow" for the numerous of social events going on from super bowl parties packed with 300 people or more to Socials where everyone is an actor, dancer, model, politician or talent of some type, always
featured a feast fit for royalty. Julia loved to cook and would fill her tables full of every type of meat to dozens of gourmet dishes you may never of heard of, but couldn't resist. And don't forget mikes a plenty for the karaoke singing and dancing til you dropped that went on throughout the day and night. And Christmas wrappings never went to waste, they served each person plenty of paper fighting ammo and later kindling for the blazing fire in the fireplace. Bows were always decorative for ones head or shirt and every gift wearable was worn, well at least til guests arrived.

She also was a successful real estate agent and became a broker after several years. She left us with inspiration that you CAN make your dreams come true and true wealth lies in the love you share and take with you when you part.

We will miss you sweet Julia!
Love to you where ever you are!
Your loving family,
Dalton, Carla, Parris, Adrian and Ric

This was a person that put color in the rainbow, made the world seem like a beautiful place to live and made nothing seem impossible. hide show

My Beautiful Mom Julia, she put color into the world and taught us love conquers all. She always said , "You're never too old to be young and play and enjoy life." She taught us to believe you can do what ever you want in life no matter where you start off.

    "Going Home To Mom's House"
A graceful sweep to the right engulfs
A chubby row of bushes lining the walkway
Strong, full rose bushes sing in the wind as
    Their scent dances around you,
    Tickling your nostrils
Huge pine trees seem as peaceful guardians
A glimpse in the kitchen window treats you
The image of a fine featured,
    Dark haired, Island-English mix woman,
    Humming merrily around, graces you
You open the front door, your mouth waters
Layers of gourmet aromas fill your nose
    A warm glow surrounds you,
She embraces you, welcoming you home
    Feelings of security, love says,
Here you're always safe and welcome
I savor now the warm memory,
Teardrop after teardrop leaves my eyes
A jagged pattern, rippling my face,
Remember days of Going home to Mom's house
