Born in Ely, Julie Cox's father was an engineer. Her mother died when she was very young. She, her brother, and father moved to Indonesia. She took classes in Jakarta, Melbourne, Houston and Malaysia. She now lives in London.

    • Cox played Sophie Aronnax in the 1997 film adaptation of Jules Verne's novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

    • Cox played Princess Irulan Corrino in Sci-Fi Channel's film adaptation of the Frank Herbert Dune novels. The movies were titled after the first and third novels, Dune and Children of Dune, respectively. Her part in the first movie was significantly expanded from the original literary character.
