Kate: (on being a role model for her stepdaughter) Although I set a high standard for myself, I always try to be positive and send out good energy into the world. I need to be a good role model to my stepdaughter. Being a co-parent has given me a new perspective on life.
Kate: (on the balance between privacy and promoting herself and her movies) You promote your films; it's part of your job. You do the magazine covers and stuff, and then I try to live a really normal life. I definitely don't try to make it into any more craziness than it is.
Kate: (on living in Sydney while filming Superman Returns (2006)) I love Sydney. I became really attached to the city while I was there. The atmosphere, culture and the people are just so amazing. I went for a cruise on the harbor, and the view of the city is one of the most amazing sights I've ever witnessed. Also, everyone there is in shape, you go to the beaches and everyone just looks so fit.
Kate: (on living in her co-star while filming Blue Crush (2002)) Of course everybody had their own little thing. My worst thing was ice cream, I was so intense about that. I insisted that no one touch the Ben & Jerry's Half Baked. If they did, it was a full-out showdown.
Kate: (on fame versus talent) I don't really get star-struck, but I do get talent struck. If I meet somebody that I think is just wildly talented and brilliant, that's when I start getting nervous.
Kate: (on the option of being introverted or extroverted) As an only child, you either become a loner or you learn to put yourself out there, which my parents
Kate: (on role models) Everybody makes mistakes, including role models, so you should just learn and grow from it. Even the best role models do screw up and learn
from their mistakes, and I think it is just completely unrealistic to say that role models are perfect. Personally, I think perfection is boring, and secondly, I just think that it's okay to make mistakes.
Kate: (on her and others hapiness) I think probably trying to please too many people. Sometimes I get so caught up in making other people happy that I just sort of forget about making myself happy and you obviously need to make yourself happy.
Kate: (on liking her career) I'm in love with what I do but it's not the only thing that fulfills me.
Kate: (on using Katharine Hepburn as role model for her character of Lois Lane in Superman Returns (2006)) I watched a lot of Hepburn to prepare for Lois,
particularly The Philadelphia Story(1940) and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967). Hepburn is a great model for how I see Lois - strong but fragile.
Kate: (on the aftermath of the movie Superman Returns (2006)) I'm ready for this. I'm just glad my 'breakout' wasn't a gigantic film. I feel solid in myself now.
Kate: (on believing in Fate in relationships) There are girls, people in the industry who just kind of flip through magazines and pick out guys, like, "I'm gonna
date him". I could never do that. I don't think being set up works. I'm big into fate.
Kate: I'd like to study psychology. I think it goes hand-in-hand with acting in a funny way - studying the mind, understanding people. I like bringing people together. I think I have a knack for matchmaking and know who'd be good to handle certain occupations. Maybe I'm just a total control freak.
Kate: I'm definitely a casual person. I like dressing up and creating different identities depending on what your mood is. But if I could wear my pyjamas all day I definitely would.
Kate: I like strip clubs! That's me. I'm a weirdo. I think I'm more fascinated by it. Especially the good strip clubs- the girls move amazingly.
Kate: The other day a friend called and told me they made a porn film using the title of my first movie. I guess you know you've made it when there's a porn parody of a movie you've done.
Kate: Great Danes are just, like, so great, aren't they? They're just, like, big dogs! I know! Yeah, yeah, Great Danes are great. Oh, my God, they just so are!
Kate: Everybody makes mistakes, including role models, so you should just learn and grow from it. Even the best role models do screw up and learn from their mistakes, and I think it is just completely unrealistic to say that role models are perfect. Personally, I think perfection is boring, and secondly, I just think that it's okay to make mistakes.
Kate: Whenever I hear that I'm on the brink of stardom, I feel like I want to run into a cave. It's a scary place to be, the pinnacle.
Kate: (modelling her Lois Lane performance on Katharine Hepburn) I watched a lot of Hepburn to prepare for Lois, particularly The Philadelphia Story and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. Hepburn is a great model for how I see Lois--strong but fragile.
Kate: (on working with the new Superman, Brandon Routh) He was very professional. And he's in this skin-tight suit with the cape, and he had people constantly picking at him and prodding him and making sure the cape laid perfectly. So it was a constant pressure and focus on him. I'm usually the one getting poked and prodded because I'm the girl, so it was a relief for me.
