When the public first met Kate Gosselin, she was a young married woman who, along with her husband Jon, was struggling to raise their family of eight children. After giving birth to twin girls and sextuplets within seven years, Jon and Kate received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to star in a reality series with their kids. Entitled "Jon and Kate Plus 8," the show highlighted the joys and tribulations of raising multiples. Following a messy public divorce from Jon, Kate is now continuing in the spotlight with her children with a newly launched series, "Kate Plus 8."
Kate also enjoyed a stint on "Dancing With the Stars" in 2010, has written three books about her experiences with motherhood, and is in talks to develop a new show of her own with TLC, the same television network that made the family's original series a success.
Kate and her brood appeared on a December 2010 episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska, in which the group went camping.
People reported in Decebmer 2010 that Gosselin is number five on the list of highly paid reality stars, earning 3.5 million a year.
Much controversy surrounds Gosselin's kids. Critics say that she has her kids working and out of school more than is healthy or appropriate. Underscoring such scrutiny were reports that two of her children, Alexis and Collin, were expelled from school. Gosselin responded to rumors that the private school her children were attending informed her they could not meet the needs of her children.
