Tom Chaplin (vocals), Richard Hughes (drums), and Tim Rice-Oxley (piano) are childhood friends from Battle, East Sussex, England, who make up the talented band, Keane. Keane was formed in 1997 while each of the guys were attending college. Keane initially started out as a cover band. They played Oasis, U2 and Beatles songs at local Sussex pubs. Their self-released debut single, Call Me What You Like, was unleashed in early 2000 and follow up Wolf At The Door followed a year later. But things developed slowly for the band. In 2002, following several years of experimenting and honing theirMore sound, Keane decided that they needed to get out and play live. They booked two acoustic gigs, one at the 12 Bar Club, another at the Betsey Trotwood. Simon Williams caught the Betsey Trotwood gig, and asked Keane to put out a single on his label.
Keane’s first UK tour saw Tom, Richard and Tim performing at venues up and down the country to audiences of between five and 300 people.

By the time spring 2003 rolled around, the guys were out on the road again, and labels were continually being offered. Keane signed to Island UK in fall 2003 and released their fourth single, This is the Last Time. The band's full-length debut,Hopes and Fears, appeared the following spring. It hit the top of the U.K. album charts during its first week of release. As they burned up the charts on both sides of the pond, Keane received two Brit Awards for Best Breakthrough Act and Best Album 2005 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. By summer 2005, they were opening select dates on U2's Vertigo world tour and enjoying their success. For their second album, the dark, thought-provoking Under the Iron Sea, Keane once again joined producer Andy Green. Stateside summer shows coincided its June 2006 release. The album debuted at number four on the Billboard Top 200 album chart during its first week of release.

    Awesome band! hide show

Well I only really discovered Keane about 3 months ago. I'd heard some of their older work such as "Everybody's Changing" from the One Tree Hill soundtrack, but that was it.

After hearing their live CD, I've really grown to love their music. Live at Hull Arena, the 2 Disc album with a great mixture of songs from their 2 albums ('Hopes and Fears', and 'Under the Iron Sea') is a masterpiece. Like most bands, they sound incredible live. This was Keane's first live appearence since Tom got out of Rehab, and they put on an awesome performance for their fans.

Favourite song from this English band would definately be 'Somewhere only we Know'. Keane really are the kind of band though where you just love every song.

I'm sure in the future these guys will produce a tonne of great music, but the wait could be a while seeing as 'Under the Iron Sea' was only released mid last year. Until that time comes, I'll continue to treat my ears to the great sounds of their live album. Definately recommended to those Keane fans who have only expreienced their studio recorded albums.
