Kirsty Young is, as I mentioned in the summary, Channel Five’s main newscaster. She has pioneered the unique news reading style with which she became famous in the first place. But, while she is one of the best newscasters in the country, she is multi-talented. She showed when she guest-presented Have I Got News For You that she had comedic talent, as Paul Merton himself stated:

“It’s nice to have someone in the middle who has comic talent.” This was actually edited out, but if you happened to see Have I Got A Little Bit More News For You, then you might remember it.

In June 2006, it was announced that she would replace Sue Lawley as the presenter of the institutional Desert Island Discs on Radio 4. While some believe that Kirsty is too “low-brow” for Radio 4, I believe that she’s an excellent choice. She’ll bring warmth that will make Desert Island Discs even more accessible.moreless
