Kristen: (On how a girl knows it's true love) She'll know when he starts putting the toilet seat down!
-
Kristen: I'm very used to playing the tomboy or the sarcastic cynic. That's my go-to. Playing the vulnerable of a real girl that's in real womanlike situations, where it's romanticized, I'm a little nervous about it.
-
Kristen: I'm not recognized very often, and if I am, it's a die-hard
Veronica Mars fan. Which is usually flattering and an honor. I really try not to think about it.
-
Kristen:
(On her return to Heroes) I'm just happy to be electrocuting people again!
-
Kristen: (On Comic-Con) This is not to be cocky, but, I go over real well at Comic-Con. I've done quite a few Comic-Cons, and I enjoy the hell out of them. They are so much fun, and so bizarre. I've done the FX Show in Florida, Wizard-World in Chicago, Comic-Con in San Diego, Wonder-Con in San Francisco, the Comic-Con in New York, and I've done them numerous times.
-
Kristen:
(On her departure from Veronica Mars) I miss the character, I miss the people, I miss the consistency of that family. Lots of mass e-mails is how we're all dealing with it. We're all still in touch. Everyone is moving on up and doing great things, but we're all still communicating.
-
Kristen: (about flying a helicopter during the filming of 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall') I drove the helicopter ... I was the co-pilot ... I reached over and grabbed the remote. I leaned over and I jerked it a little.
-
Kristen: I'm empathetic to a fault. I really do - embarrassingly enough - tear up when someone squishes a bug in front of me.
-
Kristen: I've got more junk in the trunk than most 5-foot-1 blonde girls, and I like it.
-
Kristen: Detroit, the heart of the country ... I grew up on 10 Mile, 2 miles better than 8 Mile.
-
Kristen:
(On being cast in Heroes) It is all part of my plan for world domination – and by world, I mean Fanboy World.
-
Kristen:
(On discussions with Heroes writers about the impending strike) It was like anxiety 24/7. We were all just sad, because we knew it was coming and it was the lesser of two evils. It was nerve-wracking for everyone. Nobody wanted it to happen; nobody wanted it.
-
Kristen: (On the writer's strike) I think people are trying to understand. I mean it's a little confusing to everybody when anybody goes on strike. They always think they're making inappropriate demands, but I think in this case word has gotten out enough that the writers are just looking for some fairness.
-
Kristen: I pushed myself way too hard during the first year of
Veronica Mars and I got moody and run-down. Now I'll go to bed early instead of going out with friends. It's not always the most fun option, but I know I need at least eight hours of sleep to feel balanced.
-
Kristen: (On dating) It makes me want to vomit. And not out of grossness — OK, a little bit out of grossness, but just nerves. I've always been a serial monogamist.
-
Kristen: I love nerds. Comic-Con junkies are the tastemakers of tomorrow. Isn't that funny? The tables have turned.
-
Kristen: What was previously perceived as nerdy is now viewed as original. What I like about nerdiness, geekiness, is it doesn't really matter what you're into—it just means you're not a follower.
-
Kristen: (About playing tomboys) I'm not homely enough to play the nerdy girl and not nearly pretty enough to play the pretty girl.
-
Kristen: (About looking so youthful says that she) Always play[ed roles] and look and act 10 years younger than [she is]. Something magical happened when I turned 25 — I looked in the mirror and was like, You might not get carded for an R-rated movie anymore. Like I didn't have a little stick figure anymore.
-
Kristen: (Admitting to Complex magazine that the papparazzi pay no attention to her when she is with her Heroes co-star Hayden Panettiere) I hang out with Hayden quite a bit—they never take pictures of me. I just step to the side, and I push myself in front of her when she wants to get out of it.
-
Kristen: I have the mouth of a sailor. I have to remember not to drop F-bombs when I'm ordering my lunch. Nothing is supposed to be offensive about it, it's just meant to be real.
-
Kristen: When I see something unjust, I have to intervene--it's hard for me to watch the underdog suffer.
-
Kristen:
(on Veronica Mars fans) I think that a lot of our fans have gone to unbelievable lengths to show their appreciation for the show. And they are smart; there's no one that's dumb that watches
Veronica Mars. You have to pay attention.
-
Kristen: (on living away from her LA home and working in San Diego) I don't like staying in hotels. I like to be in my own bed. San Diego as a city is really awesome. The only hard part of it for me is that I'm away from my family and my house. But as far as shooting down there, we get amazing locations, and the crew is really, really stellar down there. They are really fun.
-
Kristen:
(on how Veronica Mars has made her more astute) I read
The DaVinci Code, loved it, but by page 200 you knew who it was. You know why? . . . There were not enough characters in that book. And I only use that example because I was thinking like Veronica thinks. I thought, okay, how many characters are there? And there were only like four or five characters they had introduced, and I went through all of them and I figured it out by page 200.
-
Kristen:
(On if she is as gutsy Veronica Mars) I don't think I have the stomach Veronica has. I think I have the determination and the stubbornness and a little bit of the go-get-em. But I think I'm about 20 percent more girl than Veronica is. There's a lot of Veronica that hits home with me, the sort of feisty area. But I think that I have a little bit more girl. I'd scream my head off if I saw a body in the freezer.
-
Kristen: I'm not in the business of becoming famous. And that's the advice I give to younger aspiring actors. Work onstage and do the little roles. In the end it's not important to be seen. It's important to do. There's a lot of disappointment in this business, but my family keeps me grounded.
-
Kristen:
(on the differences between the first and second seasons of Veronica Mars) I don't know if I can judge because I don't really watch them; I just have the experience of shooting them. Reading the scripts every week, I thought [Season 2] was just as good. They did a great job of keeping it fresh and not repeating everything we did. Rob added a couple of new dynamics, and I thought that was great.
-
Kristen: (on being nominated for an Emmy) I'm not really into judging my merits or the merits of the show in contests like that. I know we're doing a great job.
-
Kristen: I'm really good at driving that car backward, backing up into places. The Teamster guys are always going, "You're really a good backward driver!" But driving it forward, man... I'm totally out of control!
-
Kristen: I'd do pretty much anything to get back on stage. I'd like to develop a new musical. I nearly had a heart attack when I heard that they're developing John Waters' Cry-Baby because that is so amazing and super and wonderful and I wish that I could be involved. But it's not the right time and I understand that. But I hear things like that and I get that little tingle in my stomach.
-
Kristen: (On being a vegetarian) I have always been an animal lover. I had a hard time disassociating the animals I cuddled with-dogs and cats, for example - from the animals on my plate, and I never really cared for the taste of meat. I always loved my Brussels sprouts.
-
Kristen: You hate those shows that you hear about, ones that are so good but if you don't get them from the beginning, you can't be part of them.
-
Kristen: (On karaoke) I can rock out anything. I mean, I can rock out a little Time After Time. I can do a little Grease Lightning. It depends on the mood, but we do go karaoke, my friends and I in Los Angeles, and it's a lot of fun.
-
Kristen: I love Teddy (Dunn) and he's a very dear friend. Everybody was sad to see him go.
-
Kristen: (On why she liked the pilot script for 'Veronica Mars') I loved Veronica right off the bat. She was so strong and I think it is so important because there are so few shows that portray women, especially young women, as being strong and being able to stand up for themselves.
-
Kristen: (On being a few units short of completing her degree in drama at NYU) The weird thing is they gave me credit for bringing people coffee (as an intern), but they wouldn't give me credit for being on a Broadway stage every night!
-
Kristen: (On her appearance in 'Pootie Tang.') People recognize me for that more than anything else. And I'm like, You know, I just did this David Mamet movie...oh, whatever. I'm the girl from 'Pootie Tang', fine.
-
Kristen: (On losing her best friend at 18) When you have a loss at such a young age, you become bitter and jaded and your whole perspective changes.
-
Kristen: I rarely wear clothes when I'm home by myself. I love making breakfast naked. But you've got to make sure the gardener's not coming that day.
-
Kristen: I'm an awful driver. I'm not going to lie about it. I'm not a good driver. I tried for a long time to pretend that I was. There's a lot of road rage and a lot of times it's directed at something I've done on the road.
-
Kristen: I've been very lucky in the characters I've chosen. Up until last year I was a nobody. I did jobs I booked because I needed to put food in my mouth.
-
Kristen: I'm not a risk taker. I don't do plunging necklines or really short skirts. I try to stay as classy as possible and provide a little mystery.
-
Kristen: I'm carded for R-rated movies. And I get talked down to a lot. When I try to go rent a car or buy an airplane ticket or other stuff adults do, I get 'Okaaaaaay, honey.' I remember when I was 18, getting crayons in a restaurant.
-
Kristen: I'm not in the business of becoming famous. And that's the advice I give to younger aspiring actors. Work onstage and do the little roles. In the end it's not important to be seen. It's important to do. There's a lot of disappointment in this business, but my family keeps me grounded.
-
Kristen: I loved Catholic school. I didn't like being beeped at by old pervs at the gas station because I was wearing a plaid skirt, though. It's like, do you think I'm going to stop and give you my phone number?
-
Kristen: There are so few strong roles for women, especially young women. And Veronica (Mars) is very serious but also very likable. She's a lone wolf, and it appeals to people that she isn't rich and doesn't have a lot of friends. No posse. She's just like you, like most of us.
-
Kristen: All girls hit that phase where they like the bad boy. I grew out of that really young and I have a wonderful guy in my life who's not a bad boy at all. I like the satiric, consistent nice guy.
-
Kristen: As an actor and as a woman willing to step outside of her comfort zone, I admire actresses that do that, like Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich. Any woman who's willing to not look beautiful. A lot of this business is based on looks.
-
Kristen: (On Enrico Colantoni) He is one of the most generous individuals I've ever met and has taken on the role of father in my life. He's super-concerned for me about things and he's always asking how I am and if I'm okay. I feel like someone has that watchful eye on me; comfort and security – he really has that. We also get along really well. Our sense of humor is the same so we just laugh all day. He's a wonderful, wonderful man.
-
Kristen: (On the mysteries on 'Veronica Mars') When I see a mystery, like a movie or a TV show, I want to know the details. So I figured when I got cast that I would be able to have all the inside info and know what's going on, but I really don't. They don't tell me anything. It's just as frustrating as being a viewer being on the show because I really only know details two weeks in advance – I don't know who killed Lilly. But I do like mysteries a lot, and what I think is cool is that it's fun to see the intelligence behind it, in a script, to see, 'Oh my gosh, THAT'S how she pieced it together.'
-
Kristen: (On her fellow 'Veronica Mars' cast members) The boys – they're all fun. Percy [Daggs III] is hysterical and Teddy's the same way. Teddy [Dunn] is so sweet, and I love watching Jason [Dohring] act because he's such a good actor and there's so much coming up for him in the series and as an actor, I've learned a lot from him because I've just been able to watch him and he's so intense. Francis [Capra] is awesome and hysterical. I think we're lucky because there's not a bad egg.
-
Kristen: (On publicity from 'Veronica Mars') In the beginning, [the press work] was centered a lot around me and the ensemble didn't do much at all. Now, once a month, we do a mall tour where we go to a different city and do a big signing and the whole cast is there. That has a much more ensemble feeling and that takes a lot of the pressure off because you're going as one.
-
Kristen: (On horror movies) I get really scared. Like when the lights are out, I am kind of a wuss. (After watching Kairo) I didn't wanna pick up my phone!
