  • Quotes

    • KT Tunstall: On the whole, I'm a positive, skippity-la-la person but I love the dark side of music and I will always want to explore that. It's a positive-sounding album but there's stuff underneath for sure.

    • KT Tunstall: It's becoming even more difficult now to get through, because you have so much money marketing and promoting these TV acts and taking up a lot of the space. Really, I think the most important thing is being sure it's about being a vocational musician. It's not about being famous and it's not about being loaded. It's about getting yourself into a position where you can play gigs and people will come. That's all I wanted, so the actual level of the success the album has enjoyed is quite surprising. It wasn't necessarily intended.

    • KT Tunstall: It's important to me that people see [my music] as sincere, I suppose.

    • KT Tunstall: (About the title of her album Eye to the Telescope) My dad was a physicist. He used to take us to the local observatory when we were kids and show off astronomical wonders through the telescope. It was just an analogy, really for what the album is about. Just focusing in on these small things and revealing how big they actually are.

    • KT Tunstall: [My parents] still don't have a stereo system. They've got a tape player and a CD player for playing my album, but they don't have a record collection. Listening to music wasn't a big part of growing up for me at all.

    • KT Tunstall: I'm not exactly sure what has driven me so hard. I've never questioned it. I've never had a back-up plan. I was never going to do anything else.

    • KT Tunstall: (About writing her first songs) I was just coming out with this schmaltzy love nonsense [in my mid-teens]. It was a complete vomit of puppy love. But I thought I was rocking.

    • KT Tunstall: I'm pretty certain that I learned how to sing because someone gave me an Ella Fitzgerald tape - she was my singing teacher.

    • KT Tunstall: [David Bowie's Hunky Dory] sound really touched my love for songwriting and spacey stuff. I was really into sci-fi books as a kid. My dad is a physicist and he used to take my brothers and I into his lab when we were little. We played games with liquid nitrogen and Van de Graaff generators. He had the keys to the observatory at St Andrew's University and he'd get us up in the middle of the night to show us Halley's Comet. That's partly why the album is called Eye To The Telescope.

    • KT Tunstall: My songs examine and explore little specific emotions or situations or stories. They're kitchen table songs, like a conversation between me and one other person. It's almost like an alien has been sent to get emotional samples from human beings and put it all together on a record.

    • KT Tunstall: I grew up knowing I could have had a million different lives. It makes your life mysterious and your imagination go wild.

    • KT Tunstall: (about choosing the name KT) I needed to do something with my name to stick out of the crowd, and as a big PJ Harvey fan, decided to follow her lead.

    • KT Tunstall: (about shorting her name to KT) It's got a bit more attitude than Kate, which just says farmer's daughter to me.

    • KT Tunstall: (about being compared to Dido) When you first start out it's useful to give people an anchor point - comparing stuff is essential and to be compared to someone successful is great. But I don't feel that what I'm doing is particularly similar to Dido's music at the end of the day.

  • Good singer!

KT Tunstall is a Scottish singer/ song writer. I first heard of KT Tunstall last year when I was in the car with my parents and we were going to the mall, her song "Big Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" was playing on the radio. I thought she was a pretty good singer so, I started listening to a few of her other songs. Two of her singles "Suddenly, I See" and "Another Place To Fall" are my favorite songs done by her. Although she isn't someone I would listen to every single day , I can't deny her talent.moreless
  • KT Tunstall's album, Eye to the Telescope, is one of the must-have albums. That's if you have to buy one album, make it that one.

Wholeness was never as whole as defined by KT Tunstall's debut album. One by one, the songs deserve the best compliments there are. "Other Side of the World", by any term, is a hit. A super-hit. It melody, lyrics, singing and the tone, all combined together, gives you the perfect feeling. You just never want to stop playing that song.

The rest of the album is also as satisfying as this song. "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree", "Suddenly I See", and "Another Place to Fall", are all successfull and excellent songs. KT, or Katie, has a sweet voice, and her plaing is gorgeous. She's not accidently nicknames "One-Woman Band"...moreless
