Larkin worked for seven years as the on-site acting coach for the CBS soap opera As the World Turns. In the 90s he also worked as a director on the now-defunct NBC soap opera Another World.

In 1984 Larkin was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series" for his work on The Edge of Night. The award eventually went to Larry Bryggman of As the World Turns.

Prior to becoming an actor, Larkin worked as a piano mover. He says that he enjoys acting much more.

In 1982 Larkin Malloy was hit by a speeding car while crossing the street. His recovery from serious injuries took months the accident nearly cost him his life he had 12 hours of emergency surgery to repair a collapsed lung,broken leg,and a collarbone,and facial lacerations.
