Laura was born in New York City to a family of mixed European heritage. Her mother, Linda Wonneberger,was a former actress and a skilled voice coach. Laura's father, Martin Vidnovic, was a Broadway stage actor and singer.
While completing school at Kinnelon High School, Laura worked in high school musical theater. Some of the plays she acted in were; Evita, Gypsy and Hello, Dolly!. Laura also won the Rising Star Award for Outstanding Actress from Paper Mill Playhouse before graduating.
Laura went on to Broadway after high school and landed a role in The Sound of Music. She left New York University to pursue the role. She continued to act on stage till an accident during a performance of Into the Woods fractured Laura's neck. She recieved surgery for her neck and made her return to the stage in the play Nine.
