Leelee Sobieski

Leelee: I think that happiness is a very strange thing. And we really feel that we have a right to this happiness. But I feel like it's constantly fluctuating, and that you can make yourself happy. I think it's an outlook. Having a positive attitude probably sounds like a corny thing to say, but a positive attitude really helps, and respecting your job really helps, and having the support of your family and friends really helps.

Leelee: Usually we have cheese fondue over the holidays. This year we're going to Portland to film a promotional video for my husband's company. And I've never been, so I'm excited.

Leelee: When we were looking at wedding rings, Adam wanted to get me a really flashy expensive one with lots of diamonds on it, but I told him that I wanted something a lot more simple. So we ended up going for the thinnest and plainest gold band they had in the store. But that doesn't matter to me - What matters is what it represents for me.

Leelee: I just can't believe I'm a mom. It's weird! You look at your own mom differently. I realized, 'You changed all my diapers? You did that?' You really appreciate your mom.

Leelee: (Explaining why she'd been given a pair of hiking boots by her husband Adam Kimmel) It's really because there's so much milk in my boobs, I might topple over. He gave me the hiking boots to keep me firmly planted on the ground.

Leelee: I love earrings - I think they really finish off an outfit. And now my ears are pierced, I've got so much more choice in earrings than I did with clip-ons. The only problem is that I love really big and bold earrings and, after I've had them in for a while, the weight really starts to pull on my lobes and I have to take them out so that the holes in them don't start to turn into little slits. I really hate seeing that on other women, and definitely don't want it to happen to me too... But yeah, I do love earrings, and I'm so glad I finally took the plunge and had my ears pierced.

Leelee: I guess 26 is kind of old to lose your virginity, but it was important to me that I remained a virgin until after I was married. It wasn't for any religious reasons or anything like that, but simply because, to me, my virginity was the most precious gift that I could ever give to a man, and I wanted to be sure I was giving it to the right man.

Leelee: (On getting all of the facial and ear piercings for her role in My First Mister) I spent well over an hour in a tattoo and piercing parlour getting them all done. The guy who did them was amazing, although he was really surprised that I was having all of these piercings done, yet I'd never even had my earlobes pierced and wasn't having them done as well. He said he could do them for me too, but I told him that I couldn't, because Jennifer doesn't have her's done either – Although I was tempted. So he did my eyebrows first, then both sides of my nose, then my lip, then the ones in the tops of my ears, and finally my navel. I thought that my lip would be the most painful one, but it was actually the ones in my ears that hurt the most. I was really nervous before he started doing them, and it felt so strange to have someone sticking needles through parts of my body and feeling the jewelry there. But, after it was done, I kind of liked how it all looked and, as time went by, I got used to having it all there. After we'd finished filming, I took most of it out, although I did think that the nose stud and navel piercing looked kind of cool, so I kept them for a couple of weeks more before I took them out.

Leelee: (talking about on-set romances) People work really hard and you're cut off from your regular life with your friends and suddenly this becomes your family. So you get into a silly phase and everyone gets close. And especially when you're playing romantically involved with someone on screen, you have a tendency to try to manifest those emotions. Whether you decide to fall in love with someone's eyes, or the way they speak, or a joke they told you- you try to convince yourself you're in love because you have to be in love onscreen.

Leelee: I like walking around New York and lying down on the sidewalk. It's very interesting to watch people step over you and be confused. When I laugh very hard, I have to lie down on the sidewalk.

Leelee: Sometimes you have the most fun doing like the worst films.

Leelee: (on the small audience for classical music) They say the younger generation has a terrible permanent case of Attention Deficit Disorder. I don't really think that exists. I think everybody's attention span is so, so short. And I don't think they're used to being able to sit through a really, really long piece of music that's not jumping all over the place.

Leelee: (On giving up smoking) When I went to audition for 88 Minutes, I had worked with that director Jon before and I was smoking a cigarette and he said 'You really shouldn't smoke' and I said 'Give me the part and I'll quit'. And I didn't hear anything from him for a while and then he gave me the part, so I quit. But I didn't tell him 'til after we were done filming the movie that I had quit.

Leelee: I like red wine. I'm a red wine girl. I mean, I like to drink a glass of red wine a day but I'm not like a crazy drinker. And, I guess if I drink hard liquor I'll have vodka...straight.

Leelee: (Talking about getting her ears pierced in 2006) It didn't hurt like I thought it would, but it still feels a bit weird - And I'm still getting used to the thought that I've now got bits of metal going through holes in my earlobes that weren't there when I woke up this morning, but I guess I'll get used to that...

Leelee: I think when you're doing a lead role, there is so much more pressure. If you fail, not only do you fail, but everybody else fails, too. As opposed to when it's a supporting role and it's only you that sucked.
