In 2003 Leland gave up competing in boxing, kickboxing and Extreme Boxing after injuring to his left knee, even after surgery he was told he could never fight again, unless he risked the loss of use of his leg. During early filming of Dog The Bounty Hunter, Leland can be seen wearing a knee brace after he had spent 4 months off his feet.
As a teenager, (13 to 15) Leland was Living in Denver, Colorado where he was a member of a gang. However, Dog would regularly check to make sure that Leland went to school, this negatively affected Leland's "street cred", as no one wanted to "hang out" with him.
Leland enjoys what Hawaii has to offer when it comes to sports and often goes spear fishing off the coast.
Leland Chapman, along with his father and Tim Chapman, was arrested on September 14, 2006 in Hawaii. The arrest comes three years after traveling to Mexico to capture Andrew Luster. He faces charges of illegal detention, conspiracy and kidnapping.
