Lin Shaye, also known as Linda Shaye, was born in Detroit, in 1941. Shaye majored in art history at the University of Michigan, but acted in as many school productions as possible including Bye, Bye, Birdie and On The Town. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, Shaye went on to receive a master of fine arts degree from Columbia University. She began her acting career by appearing in several Broadway, off-Broadway and Lincoln Center productions before appearing in film. Her debut film performance was in the 1975 film Hester Street. From There she went on to appear in several other films including There's Something About Mary, Hate Crime, Dead End and Insidious. She was also nominated for several awards for these movies. Shaye was nominated for a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for her role in There's Something About Mary, and a Cyber-Horror Award, a Fangoria Chainsaw Award, Fright Meter Award and Saturn Award for her role in the horror film Insidious. She was the winner of the Fright Meter Award.
