Lloyd Bridges

His wife, Dorothy Dean Simpson, was his college sweetheart.

He studied political science at University of California, Los Angeles.

He appeared in two productions with his son Beau Bridges in which he played his father, a retired colonel, whose first name was never revealed (and his grandson Dylan Bridges): The Outer Limits episodes "The Sandkings (1)" and "The Sandkings (2)" and Meeting Daddy.

His final television appearance was in the Ned and Stacey episode "Skippy's Revenge". It first aired on July 13, 1999, sixteen months after his death.

Unlike many of his fellow actors, he was a dedicated family man and remained faithful to his wife Dorothy Dean Bridges throughout their sixty year marriage.

Although he and his son Jeff Bridges appeared in six different productions together, they never played father and son.

His final film was Jane Austen's Mafia!. It was released on July 24, 1998, over four months after his death.

The film, The Big Lebowski, in which his son Jeff Bridges appeared was released on March 6, 1998, only four days before his death.

His second child, Gary (b. 1947), died of sudden infant death syndrome .

His parents were Lloyd Vernet Bridges, Sr. and Harriet Brown.

He played Commander Cain in the Battlestar Galactica (1978) episode "The Living Legend (1)" and "The Living Legend (2)". His son, Beau Bridges, currently stars in Stargate SG-1 which airs on the Sci-Fi Channel on Friday nights, opposite the remake Battlestar Galactica (2003).

In 1914, he was awarded the winner's cup in a fat-baby contest by its judge, former President William H. Taft, who thought Lloyd was as fat as he was. He was also among the last living people to have known Taft.

He was married to Dorothy Dean Bridges from 1938 until his death on March 10, 1998.

He is the father of Beau Bridges, Jeff Bridges and Cindy Bridges.
