Lois Smith has been acting for more than a half-century. Her great breakout role was as a young prostitute opposite James Dean in East of Eden. She has been a staple in films since that time, appearing memorably in Five Easy Pieces and Minority Report. An accomplished stage actress, she is a member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Ensemble and earned Tony nominations in their Broadway productions of The Grapes of Wrath and Buried Child. Most recently she has appeared on stages from New York to Chicago in an acclaimed performance as Carrie Watts in Horton Foote's play A Trip to Bountiful.
