Canadian actress Luciana Carro, remembered for her role as Louanne "Kat" Katraine, Viper pilot aboard Battlestar Galactica on the series with same name, is of Italian descent and was was raised in Toronto, Ontario. As a child, Luciana was rather shy so her parents encouraged her to enroll in acting courses. During high school, her drama teacher saw talent and potential in her and persuaded her to consider a future in the acting industry. Carro then attended Theatre Humbre in Toronto for five years to further her skills in the performing arts.

In 2000, Luciana moved to Vancouver, British Columbia (considered to be Canada's counterpart to Hollywood) to find more opportunities in the acting business. She made her television debut on The Chris Isaak Show in January 2002, appearing as Tanya during the next couple of years. She also landed guest-starring roles in both Canadian and US shows such as Da Vinci's Inquest, Still Life and The Collector apart from her involvement in some made-for-TV movies and feature films, including White Chicks (2004) and Murder at the Presidio (2005).

As most of her fellow Canadian actors do, Carro also appeared in Vancouver-filmed TV series like Smallville and The L Word. In 2005, she had a minor part in Two For the Money, which starred Al Pacino and Matthew McConaughey. The following year, she got a more major role as an antagonist in Dr. Dolittle 3. She also portrayed the recurring role of Stephanie Meyer, Ephram Brown's love interest, during the last season of the CW small-town drama Everwood. In 2004, Luciana came aboard Battlestar Galactica as Kat, a Viper pilot trainee who worked her way up to becoming CAG (Commander, Air Group) of the ship.
