She produced Una Vez Al Ano Para Toda Una Vida an award-winning educational film in Spanish. It focused on the need for awareness regarding breast cancer in Latinas.
She received an award from the National Board of Review and an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Beverly Franco.
Lupe won a Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize for Acting Real Women Have Curves in 2002 and a National Board of Review Best Supporting Actress Chuck & Buck in 2000. Lupe was also nominated for an Emmy from her work on Desperate Housewives.
