Luther Vandross was born Luther Ronzoni Vandross on April 20, 1951 in New York City, the baby of four siblings. His father also named Luther died due to diabetes at when he was eight years old. His mother Mary was a nurse who loved gospel music and always played music in the house. Luther Vandross created a band in high school. He sang with artists like Chaka Khan and Richard Marx. In my opinion, he was one of the best artists in the music industry. In 1977, he sang at the Super Bowl XXXI the national anthem. In his last years of life, Luther started having depression that led to obesity and high pressure. Famous singers like Patti LaBelle and Aretha Franklin were close friends of his. Though he is dead, he will always be a remembered singer with an awesome talent.
Luther Vandross was an all American Icon. people from all backgrounds social , economical , and political could enjoy a song from this all time greats. He made music that was wholesome and clean for all ages. He will be greatly missed in the hearts of man
As a kid I remember mommy playing you on the record player and I would love sitting on the hard wood floor singing along.
As I got older I was able to understand that your lyrics and melodies came from the heart and
soul. Songs of love , relationships , friendships
and life. I admire Luther Vandross for not following the majority and for staying true to R&B that is pure. His music will live on for generations to come and my kids and grandkids will know his name.
A voice so pure it is like the whisper of an angel , An R&B legend - you will be remembered by millions for the positive outlook that you had on life and for sharing your life with the whole world through song.
Luther has not only crooned classics he has made them. Luther Vandross, fifty four, died at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison, N.J. on Friday, July 1, 2005. That day in my world will always be a grievous one.
During his career Vandross has attained 4 Grammys, the most recent being one for 'Best Song' at the 2004 Grammy Awards for 'Dance With My Father'.
Vandross was born April 20, 1951 in New York City to his mother, Mary. In 2003, he suffered from a stroke and was to remain in a hospital for the rest of his life. His family was afflicted with diabetes and it caused Luther serious weight problems. His father and 3 siblings preceded him in death.
