Mackenzie served as a bridesmaid in the wedding of her 7th Heaven sister Beverley Mitchell, who got married in Italy on October 1, 2008. Fellow 7th Heaven co-star Jessica Biel was also in the wedding party.

Mackenzie's stepsister Katelyn Salmont passed away on Christmas 2008, due to complications from her CF. She was 22 years old.
