Mary-Kate: (on not acting anymore) I don't have to be a pretty face. I've done that, but now it's important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don't like to be the center of attention anymore.
Mary-Kate: (when asked if people tease her and Ashley about their childhood career) I think it's more that they feel sorry for us...because it's kind of bittersweet. I mean, we were like little monkey performers, you know? I look at old photos of me, and I don't feel connected to them at all. It doesn't feel like me. It feels like a role that I played. I would never wish my upbringing upon anyone...but I wouldn't take it back for the world.
Mary-Kate: (in 2010 about her and her twin sister) We're like two little young old women who have been through a lot. We're turning 24 on Sunday, and I said to Ash, "Can you believe we're turning 48?" We've been working since we were nine months old. That's the way we feel.
Mary-Kate: Australia is so cool that it's hard to even know where to start describing it. The beaches are beautiful; so is the weather. Not too crowded. Great food, great music, really nice people. It must be a lot like Los Angeles was many years ago.
Mary-Kate: (on New York Minute) I learned how to play the drums! When we were in pre-production, when we were still in LA, I had a couple of drum lessons and then some in Toronto. I got the one beat down and that was it.

Mary-Kate: (about being cast as a drug addict on Weeds) I've spent the last year going on auditions, acting, and working hard. There will always be my celebrity, but my work speaks for itself.
Mary-Kate: When we were kids, the work we did wasn't about acting. It was about pleasing people and making kids smile.
Mary Kate: I think we've been labelled as role models since we were very young. My sister and I don't look at ourselves as role models - I think that's a huge responsibility. The best we can do is take care of ourselves and experience life for ourselves and not really let the outside world affect us.
Mary-Kate: (about the world in general) I find it very interesting, actually. I think about it all the time. Since I've been in it, and grew up in it, and I've been working since I was nine months old, I don't know any different. But I also......I can't see the other side. It's hard for me to really see how big Dualstar is, or how big everything is. I have to be reminded. Because I'll ask a simple question sometimes of whether or not we can do certain things. And I'll get a look like I'm crazy.
Mary-Kate: I run around my house naked with heels all the time. It's so funny. All my friends will tell you I love running around in kimonos and jewelry, or naked with jewelry.
Mary-Kate: (revealing she is too self-conscious to wear a bikini) I would love to be able to swim in the ocean in Malibu. But that is asking for a bikini shot. That's inviting something that I don't want to happen. I don't need to be on a 'Who's Skinny, Who's Fat, Who's Looking Healthy, Who's Not Eating?' list. I don't want my picture taken. The only time I think it's OK is at a red-carpet event or a photo shoot. So every time I see paparazzi, I cover my face so they don't get a picture, and I'm just 'the mean person who doesn't smile.'
Mary-Kate: I don't want my picture taken. The only time I think it's okay is at a red-carpet event or a photo shoot.
