Matthew Perry

Matthew was intrigued by the darkness of his character, Joe Tyler, in the 2002 film, Serving Sara, as it was a different approach for his to take when portraying a character.

Matthew liked the script of the film, The Whole Nine Yards as soon as he read it, and was excited to work with Bruce Willis.

In May of 2000, Matthew managed to survive a car crash where his Porsche drove straight into the porch of a house.

In 1997, Matthew became addicted to painkillers, after he took some following a jet ski accident.

Matthew was so nervous before starting on his first film, Fools Rush In, with Salma Hayek, that he almost threw up on the first day of shooting.

In the mid 90's, Matthew appeared in a Pepsi commercial with the whole cast of Friends. He appeared alongside Bruce Willis in an "I Love This Game" commercial ad for the NBA and was in a Hanes commercial with Michael Jordan.

In an episode of The Simpsons called "Treehouse of Horror XII", the Simpsons buy an electronic house with a voice and personality. They try out a few voices, one of which is Matthew Perry's, and when tested it says: "Yeah, could I be anymore of a house?", which sounds like something Matthew's character, Chandler, on Friends would say.

He is an active contributor of many charities, including Lili Clare Foundation, Prostate Cancer Foundation, Racquet Rumble, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Hollywood Helps Hollygrove, Sargent Cancer Care Fund and many more.

His character, Chandler, on Friends was an avid cigarette smoker. In reality, Matthew is also a smoker.

In one episode of Friends, Matthew had to act as if he was bad at tennis. This was hard for him as he is a fantastic player and really loves playing the game. He even sold his house because it didn't have a tennis court.

While filming Friends, Matthew appeared in two public service announcements for NBC's The More You Know. His topics were stay in school and teacher recruitment.

In Studio 60, Bradley Whitford's character has a drug problem, which is ironic seeing as Matthew, who stars opposite Whitford, had a drug problem.

Matthew's father John Bennett Perry, an actor, and his mother Suzanne, a TV anchor and press secretary for the Canadian Prime Minister, divorced when he was just a baby. His mom remarried when he was ten, and she had four girls.

Matthew was originally unavailable to work on Friends due to a pilot he was shooting called LAX 2194. He helped his friends with auditions though, and realized he was similar to Chandler and got the part.

Matthew dated Kristin Davis, who played 'Charlotte' in Sex and the City. The pair met at the Beverly Hills Club and have been seen together in LA many times since, hand in hand. Mutual friends have confirmed the relationship.

Matthew previously dated Lauren Graham. He briefly went out with Neve Campbell after the release of Scream and dated Julia Roberts in 1995 after she guest-starred on Friends. He also had a previous relationship with Rachel Dunn and split up with her to concentrate on 'soberity'.

Matthew auditioned for the role of Billy Campbell on Melrose Place. Andrew Shue landed the role.

Matthew was admitted to rehab twice: once in 1997 and once in 2001. He was especially unattractive in the 7th and 8th season (2001-2003) of Friends, because he was getting over the addiction. He's been clean ever since his last admittance to rehab in 2001. They had to delay the filming of Serving Sara because of his 28-day stay in rehab.

In 2000, Matthew and his fellow cast members of Friends signed on to receive $750,000 per episode each. In 2002, they earned $1,000,000 per episode each.

Matthew struggled with drug addiction. His constant weight change on Friends was noticeable because he would quit but then start again. He quit completely in season five or six.

Matthew has dual citizenship in Canada and the United States.

Matthew Perry loves to play tennis, and was a nationally ranked junior player in Canada. He was later romantically linked to the world's top ranked female player, Jennifer Capriati, although the pair claimed to only be friends.

Matthew is 6'1" (1.85m) in height.

Matthew's the youngest member of the Friends cast.

He stars alongside good friend, Hank Azaria in David Mamet's play called Sexual Perversity in Chicago.
