- James Hetfield was burned onstage in Montreal, Canada in 1992. Before the show, the stage crew told the band there are different pyrotechnics for the song 'Fade To Black' but forgot to tell them that the original pyrotechnic setup hadn't been removed so James was wondering around stage and stood right in the middle of a cannon that would shoot a 12 foot flame into the air. All the strings melted off his guitar and he had to be rushed to hospital were they concluded he had 3rd degree burns. James stayed on the tour though, he couldnt play guitar but could still sing.
