Michael Byrne is a British actor born on November 7, 1943. He was born in London, England. His long and illustrious career has spanned nearly five decades, starting with the 1960 soap opera, "Coronation Street," Britain's longest running soap opera. He left the show to pursue other projects but in January 2008, returned for a prolonged guest appearance. Until 2010 he Byrne portrayed Ted Paige, Gail Platt's long-lost father. He has appeared in nearly 130 television series, mini-series, films, and documentaries. He is perhaps most famous for playing Nazi characters, such as Colonel Vogel in the movie, "Indian Jones and the Last Crusade" in 1989. However, he also played a Jewish concentration camp survivor who helped capture a Nazi war criminal in the film "Apt Pupil." In 2010, he appeared as Gellert Grindelwald in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." Byrne has also appeared in the films "Tomorrow Never Dies," "Gangs of New York," "Braveheart," and "Proof of Life."
