The district attorney starts to worry when Sheriff Lamb, Jack and Katherine decide to figure out how Savino skims money by using the phone tap in Savino's office. Dixon and Yvonne visit Violet in Hollywood. While attending a party, Yvonne gets to show off her voice. Mia's presumed dead mother, Lena, shows up at the Savoy.

Following the death of her father, Mia doesn't know whether to trust Savino or Jack. And when Jack confronts Savino about setting him up to kill Rizzo, the two come to blows. Sheriff Lamb is prevented from doing his job when the FBI interferes. Dixon is head over heels for Hollywood starlet Viola. Tommy and Dixon discover Yvonne's singing talent.

At a town gathering, Elena nearly loses control, but Caroline steps in and comes to her rescue. Finally, Damon reveals his true feelings to an unexpected friend.

Elena wakes up the morning after the accident to discover that her greatest fear has come true: she died with vampire blood in her system and must now decide whether to suffer through the terrible transition to become a vampire or face death. Stefan promises Elena that he and Bonnie will explore every possible solution to her predicament, but Damon is furious with Stefan for saving Matt instead of Elena. Bonnie faces extreme consequences after attempting to help Elena, and Damon focuses his frustration and anger on Matt. In a rare moment of empathy, Rebekah is touched by Stefan and Elena's love for one another. Pastor Young and the Town Council members start to round up the vampires and their supporters, but their efforts lead to a surprising tragedy.

As the press get more aggressive about Daniel's release from incarceration the SEC begins the formal investigation in to Grayson Global; Emily discovers a photograph of her father that offers more clues about his death; A mystery woman enters the fray.

Jane and Maura investigate whether arson played any role in the death of a firefighter killed in a warehouse fire. Not too long after, a hit-and-run complicates the case. FBI Agent Gabriel Dean returns eager to renew his relationship with Jane.

Jane zeros in on the wife when the stockbroker husband is murdered. Meanwhile, Jane tries hypnotism to aid her efforts to quit smoking. Matt and his ex-wife are at odds over Jane attending their son's birthday party.

Although her supervisor, Lt. Kevin Sweeney, is sympathetic to her complaints nothing much happens until a tragic event takes place.
