Michael Symon was born in 1969 and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
He dreamed of being a wrestler, but a broken arm in 1990 ended those dreams and he got a job at Geppetto's Ribs as a cook, and the rest is culinary history.
He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1990, and in 1997 opened his first restaurant with his wife, Liz.
He is now the chef/owner of two restaurants in Cleveland, Lola and Lolita.
In 1998 he was named one of the top 10 new chefs by Food and Wine magazine and has twice been nominated for James Beard Foundation awards.
