Tejada grew up in extreme poverty in Bani, a city approximately 40 miles southwest of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. His chlidhood dream of playing professional baseball was realized when he was signed by the Oakland Athletics at the age of seventeen in 1993. His signing bonus was $2,000.

    Miguel Tejada is an amazing player. he really is. I have watched him for quite a while now, and he never ceases to amaze. It's amazing. he is the all around player. the all around team player as well. he hits for power and average an rbi's. his fielding is superb also. I would like to get a chance to see him live, but that won't happen. anyways, Tejada is a great player, who will be around for years to come. one day he will probably win the triple crown. one day, he will probably be in the hall of fame.
