Mike has a wife named Kathy, has four daughters, twins Calla and Jenny , Emily, and Gretchen, and four granddaughters, Emma, Emerson, Mary and Isabell.
In Mike's first season as coach for Seattle he brought the Seahawks to their first playoff game since 1988.

Mike (On his retirement): I like my job; I like this place, and we had some unfinished business. As long as Kathy was OK with that, then I was going to give it another go.
Mike: We needed to do that, to control the ball with our running game, and obviously, that was one of the keys to the game.
Mike: Sean has played pretty well so we're going to let him play, but we're going to get Chop in there to play a little bit.
Mike: Well, usually you don't have a lot of loan officers back there playing.
Mike: I had never really experienced that as a head coach.
Mike: You coach long enough, you end up seeing just about everything.
Mike: To leave Seattle for just another coaching job, I wouldn't do that.
