A break is finally achieved in Sarah Holy case when Mitch, Ray, Tammy and Abby put all their information together and discover that Noble Insurance, under the direction of Kevin Stack, is systematically killing terminally ill patients in order to save insurance money and that Sarah, using her medical training, is the one who commits the murders. Mitch asks for a meeting with Sarah to confront her with what he knows.
Meanwhile, Mitch's first paying client, Gerald Sykes, is in jail charged in an ABM robbery and shooting. Despite DNA evidence, Gerald protests his innocence claiming he was not there. When Mitch tells him that he needs a viable defense, Gerald changes his initial story to claiming he was there but was the victim, not the robber.
Mitch takes the case of condemned murderer Jim Thorne, scheduled to be executed in three days, who wants to offer his heart to the teenage daughter of the man he murdered. The girl has but a short time to live and Thorne wants at least one good thing to come from his life.
Meanwhile, Tammy and Abby interview relatives of deceased Noble Insurance clients, individuals whose case numbers are on the Moxon list, and Tammy's unexpected news of an inheritance causes friction between her and Ray. Ray also meets with Sarah Holt's ex-husband, who tells him Sarah was an Army medic who saved hundreds of lives.
Mitch takes on the case of Elena Vosco, who is accused of kidnapping a three-month old baby, while Abby struggles with what to do about Kyle Hannon, a student she suspects is being abused by his father. Mitch also takes on the case of Dr. Richard Kellner, who is seeking an injunction against a rival pharmaceutical company in the hopes of protecting his life's work - a promising Alzheimer's drug.
Mitch's new client is a learning impaired young man named Nate Murphy who, along with his brother Shawn, was part of a three-man robbery-homicide at a jewellery store. The third man committed the murder and the prosecution is offering a plea to only one of the Murphy brothers. When Nate wants to stick together, Mitch makes an agreement with Shawn's attorney to do so only to have Shawn take the deal anyway. Now Mitch must find a reason for the prosecutor to change his mind.
Also, Tammy persists with Martin Moxon in order to crack the code of the list of numbers he slipped Mitch in hopes of better understanding the Sarah Holt case.
Mitch defends Zoran Mirkos, who is accused of burning down a nightclub where he was seen in an altercation earlier in the evening. Meanwhile, further developments in the Sarah Holt case suggest that the she is keeping vital information from Mitch.moreless
