Orlando: (on his dyslexia) Because of the dyslexia I always thought I had to work twice as hard as everyone else just to go the same distance. And I think that gave me a real kick as a kid and a lot of fight and a lot of drive later on, like when I broke my back. And now, whenever I prepare for a meeting I am always over prepared. So for the Lord Of The Rings audition, for example, I really prepared it thoroughly. In one sense, I guess that I'm grateful; it gave me that drive, and so far it's paid off.
Orlando: Isn't it every boy's dream to be a pirate? I certainly played pirate when I was a kid.
Orlando: (on his eco-friendly house) It has been a hassle, no denying it. It has come in at double the budget, but I'll admit it was me who was making all the changes! It's powered by all the latest technology and I've tried to think about recycling--using as much old material as I can. It isn't furnished yet, and I'm still living out of a suitcase but it's coming together.
Orlando: (on Kate Bosworth) We're still very good friends. But there's been no denying that it had been a difficult year for us both. Kate was on one side of the world, in Australia shooting Superman, and I was on the other, in the Bahamas for Pirates. So we tried giving each other a little bit of time out... In our case, it was extremely unfortunate that everything was on public display. I have always tried to keep my cards close to my chest--while wearing my heart on my sleeve--but it is a really hard thing to do.
Orlando: I'd like to live a proper family life--with a partner and kids. That's what it's all about, isn't it? I've had a crazy life, in many ways, and I realize now I want someone to share it with.
Orlando: (on learning about an imposter of him on MySpace) I heard about him in a really weird way. This guy approached me in my hometown and said something like, 'I'm Angel.' He had this mad look in his eye. I was like, 'You're who? That's a funny name for a guy.' And he said, 'I'm four down on MySpace. You're on MySpace, right?' And I said, 'I don't even know what it is!' I'm not on it. So anyone who's pretending to be me, I hope he's getting laid a lot.
Orlando: Fuck, I'd love to (buy a place in New York). I love New York. I'm a city boy, for sure. I tend to see a play every time I'm in New York. I went to the Beatrice Inn and I liked it. You don't find places like that anywhere else. I think New Yorkers probably think they're too cool for school, which I love. It's like London in that way; people don't tend to jump down your throat.
Orlando: (after being faced with an angry female fan who broke into his hotel room) She got kind of aggressive with me and was really angry. She was like, 'I've been at every premiere and you never say hello.' And it was funny, I felt really upset. I felt bad for her. So I turned around and went over to her and just gave her a hug and said, 'It's cool. I'm sorry you feel let down or disappointed. But the nature of my life is I can't necessarily stop every time, and it's not because I don't want to.' I think she felt a little better afterwards, and so did I. And for me, it actually shed a little light on the other side of the coin.
Orlando: (on taking time out from acting to focus on a more Buddhist lifestyle) I've been white knuckling it for so long. Between the first Lord Of The Rings and the last Pirates Of The Caribbean, I've been going non-stop. So now I just want some time and space from everything and the phone and the communication.
Orlando: (remembering when he fell 3 floors and broke his back when he was 21) For four days I was thinking this was it, that I would be living my life in a wheelchair, and then I thought, no, and I knew I would walk. I just knew.
Orlando: (on his plans to build an environmentally-friendly house in London) It's as green as I can make it. It's got solar panels on the roof, energy efficient light bulbs - newer technology basically that is environmentally friendly. It might not be possible for everyone to live a completely green lifestyle, but we can do little things to help slow global warming. People could just help by unplugging their phone chargers and turning off the TV when they're not watching it. It doesn't have to be overwhelming, there are simple things we can do.
Orlando: If you want to screw around, it's your choice and you accept it when you're caught.
Orlando: (on turning 30) I'm not a big partier like that. I like to party, I like to dance, but I'm not one of those guys who throws lavish parties for the sake of it. I sort of feel like it's a bit of noise. It's not my thing. I'll probably get a few friends together in a way that's hopefully private and fun.
Orlando: (on being hassled down the pub) I can do it sometimes. But you just deal with it. Most people, when you do that, aren't expecting to see you. So if someone says, 'Are you Orlando Bloom?', I say, 'No, I get that all the time. People always ask that'.
Orlando: (on appreciating where he is in life) I try to take the time to appreciate it. I do thank my lucky stars all the time and I feel so proud of everything I've done. But that's something I need to work on, building in a bit of time for myself.
Orlando: (on working with girlfriend Kate Bosworth) I feel really good about it. Yes, it feels like a very comfortable environment, although I never thought I would do that. The script is fantastic.
Orlando: Although it is a fantasy film, it's as real as it can be. You have to imagine that an audience will buy their ticket to a cinema and get on a first-class flight and journey to Middle Earth.
Orlando: Aged nine, I had this girlfriend, and we used to have running races in the park to see who would be her boyfriend for the day. I wanted to be like Superman and fly in and rescue her. Once I realised Superman was an actor, I though, 'That's for me, mate'. I got into acting for the women.
Orlando: I get spotted now and again. Some people say, 'You're that elf dude, right?'
Orlando: I'm picky when it comes to food--as long as there's no meat in it.
Orlando: There's nothing wrong with sleeping with strippers. Thankfully, I've got a lot of that sort of stuff out of my system.
Orlando: I got to dress up in funny clothes and run around New Zealand with a bow and arrow for 18 months, how bad could that be?
Orlando: Elves are cool, man.
Orlando: If life isn't about humanity, then tell me what it's about, because I'd love to know.
Orlando: When I'm not working, I prefer to sit and do nothing. The simple things suddenly become more enjoyable.
Orlando: The girls have got a bit excited. I spoke to my agent and she says she's wading through the fan mail. We've got bags of it. I'm like, 'OK, well, what do we do with that, then?' And she explains that we're sending them pictures and stuff, which is great.
Orlando: You have to be quite serious about tattoos [because] they're there forever.
Orlando: It's all very surreal. I've had two very fantastic experiences. In "Lord of the Rings" and in "Black Hawk Down." I feel very lucky. I'm sort of doubly excited.
Orlando: (on fame, and the rumors) The rumors are the price you pay for a great job and lifestyle, like tax.
Orlando (meeting Keira Knightley the first time): We met at the Ivy in Beverly Hills years ago. It was so funny because I got hammered--because the Ivy is, like, one of those places where you get hammered. [Laughs.] But, yeah, I do remember that night. I admire her in such a massive way--the choices she's made, the way she handles herself. I was just looking at her the other day and she was handling a sword, doing this whole sword routine. She's the most beautiful woman on the set and, you know, she's got that ability to rough it with the lads and still look ethereal and still be the beauty and the talent that she is.
Orlando (on going to a pub without being hassled): I can do it sometimes. But you just deal with it. Most people, when you do that, aren't expecting to see you. So if someone says, "Are you Orlando Bloom?", I say, "No, I get that all the time. People always ask that."
Orlando (on appreciating life): I try to take the time to appreciate it. I do thank my lucky stars all the time and I feel so proud of everything I've done. But that's something I need to work on, building in a bit of time for myself.
Orlando: (about wanting to get back together with Kate Bosworth) I think about her all the time. You can't just switch off. I wouldn't be surprised if we were back together soon. I love her.
Orlando: Fame and celebrity were not something that I contemplated because they were too far ahead to imagine.
Orlando: (of his "Lord of the Rings" co-stars) Elf Envy...they all had it.
Orlando: I always feel like a pirate.
Orlando: I'd like to grow old gracefully or pain free at least.
Orlando: It's a bit strange to be included in those sexiest people polls and all that sort of thing. I don't really even know who I'm up against!
Orlando: You have to be quite serious about tattoos (because) they're there forever.
Orlando: (On his 2002 Empire Award) I think my mum will have [my award] in pride of place somewhere beside my grandmother on the mantelpiece.
Orlando: (on being called a "heartthrob") That doesn't bother me. Name any of my heroes, and they were hotties. (Marlon) Brando was a pin-up, so was James Dean, Paul Newman. I'm not going to (rest) on my "teen hottie" laurels. I have aspirations to do more than that. (Still) they're very loyal fans, those teenage girls! I definitely appreciate them!
Orlando: (about being in the South while filming "Elizabethtown") I just loved being down there... Eating ribs, having barbecues, the weather, the humidity, the bugs -- I kind got into the whole thing.
Orlando: I remember seeing myself in Lord of the Rings and thinking, 'I can't believe I'm in this movie.
Orlando: I think I have a horrible American accent--I worked very hard on it, and I'm proud of it now.
Orlando: Everyone's capable of doing extraordinary things. You read about it all the time. People all over the place do these things on a daily basis. I'm just an actor-I'm not in a hospital saving someone's life.
Orlando: I'm probably a good boyfriend, but I'm pretty intense. When you're with me it's exciting, fun and very intense. At the same time I'm easy going. But all that depends on what girl I'm with.
Orlando: When you start falling for somebody and you can't stop thinking about when you're going to see them again, I love that. Women are beautiful. They deserve to be cherished and respected- They're a handful.
Orlando: When I'm not working, I prefer to sit and do nothing. The simple things suddenly become more enjoyable.
Orlando: There's been a lot of heat because we decided to take some time out. But we're really close. It's unfortunate everything has to be for public display. It's hard when you travel. It makes relationships a challenge. I've always kept everything close to the vest, and that's how I intend to play everything. We've both got a big year ahead, and we thought, just for this year, we'd give each other some time to grow.
Orlando: I'm quite sensitive to women. I saw how my sister got treated by boyfriends. I read this thing that said when you are in a relationship with a woman, imagine how you would feel if you were her father. That's been my approach, for the most part.
Orlando: I'm in love with love. It's heavenly when you're falling for someone and you can't stop thinking about her.
Orlando: Vig used to call me "elf boy," and I'd call him "filthy human." As an Elf, I never got a scratch on me, never got dirty. And Vig would come out with blood and sweat all over him. And he'd say to me, "Oh, go manicure your nails."
Orlando: I was fearless up until I broke my back, and it's not like that disappears, but you suddenly realise that it's your body you're messing with and you have to be careful.
Orlando: I don't have a problem with groupies. When you are on set or have been promoting all day, the last thing you want is a load of ladies knocking on your door.
Orlando: I really want to do some theatre. My career took this marching pace that meant that I was running to the beat of a drum that I wasn't quite sure where the noise was coming from.
Orlando: (about producing a movie) Ordinarily on set you don't think about those things; if you're, like, the actor, it's not my problem, but suddenly it's like, 'Oh my God.'
Orlando: I know how lucky I am. I've no complaints about the work.
Orlando: If I get the chance to kiss someone in a movie, they don't need to pay me at all. I came to acting because of the women.
Orlando: I don't want to be a pretty boy. I'm not interested in celebrity. I want to be an actor.
Orlando: Theatre is something that I feel very important for an actor to keep doing. I think it keeps you sharp. But at the moment I'm intrigued with movies and filmmaking. It hasn't lured me away from theatre, but I'm just going to try to ride this wave and then jump onto another and see how far it takes me.
Orlando: I don't care that much about money, actually. People get obsessed with those things, but the only thing that can really make you happy is love.
Orlando: I can't wait to have a family one day, but I still think of myself as a kid. I'm not in a hurry, I'm not ready for all that.
Orlando: I prefer Christina Aguilera to Britney Spears--love her VOICE, what a voice!
Orlando: I'm still at the beginning of my career. It's all a little new, and I'm still learning as I go.
Orlando: When I was nine, I had this girlfriend and we used to have running races in the park. I wanted to be like Superman and fly in and rescue her.
Orlando: There's a difference between a failure and a fiasco- A fiasco is a disaster of mythic proportions.
Orlando: I did send a girl a plane ticket asking her for a visit, I guess that's quite romantic.
Orlando: A friend told me that teenage girls are always looking for someone to pin their dreams on. That doesn't make it any less weird though.
Orlando: I have a great job. I get to dress up and become somebody else, especially when it's someone like Legolas, who's this super-cool kind of otherworldly elf. It's, like, I'm lucky, man, so why would I not appreciate that?
Orlando: If life isn't about human beings and living in harmony, then I don't know what it's about.
Orlando: Whatever happens in life is fine - just trust in that.
Orlando: People come into your life and people leave it- you just have to trust that life has a road mapped out for you.
Orlando: I am a hopeless romantic and I love to spoil my girlfriends.
Orlando: I'm just focusing on my career. Ultimately I'm just riding this really big wave right now. I'm just trying to hold on tight for dear life and not fall off.
Orlando(On Pirates of the Caribbean co-star Keira Knightley): She's a great kisser and a lovely, and very funny, person. She's absolutely gorgeous.
