Patrick Macnee

When approached by Leonard White and Sydney Newman of ABC (Associated British Corp.) Television to act in "The Avengers," Patrick Macnee was working as a producer of the documentary version of Sir Winston Churchill's "The Valiant Years." As a consequence, Macnee was ready to reject the role, then learned he could ask for a six-fold increase in his weekly salary. He did, although he settled for tripling it.
