Grew up in the north of England. Got teaching credential in college and taught English and Drama before joining Leeds Playhouse Theatre, where his acting career began. In over 30 years in the business he has appeared on stage, TV and motion pictures many times.

Paul Copley is a great actor. I was watching him as Matthews in Horatio Hornblower, and right in the middle I saw a few episodes of Cracker, where he played a medical examiner, and he was so natural at both characters that I had no difficulty in accepting him in such different roles. Often seeing an actor in two widely differing roles, especially when one is a period piece, can be disconcerting, but he does such a good job. I hope to see him in some other parts.moreless
