Paul: (on coming back to work after the strike) It'll be fun to go back and sit in the [writers'] room again making jokes.
Paul: (on writing an episode for his The Office character Toby) I guess my mind jumps to other people first. As an actor, which is just a very small percentage of me, I don't feel Toby while I'm writing. It's the hardest of the characters to access.
Paul: (on The Office showrunners needing a specific joke) If they needed a really dark, twisted, suicidal joke they might come to me.
Paul: (on his love for comedy) I always loved it. My brother and I discovered Steve Martin's albums and we would memorize lines and say them back and forth to each other. Comedy was where it was at for us.
Paul: (on Steve Carell's role on him being part of the regular cast) He said that as an actor, he felt a tremendous amount of hate toward Toby and he had no idea why. And that's where Toby came from.
Paul: When we are in pre-production, this is the best job in the world. Working 10 to 7, sitting around and brainstorming with the other writers, making things funnier and writing and rewriting scenes - that's as fun as it gets.
Paul Lieberstein: (On what the writing room on The Office is like) It is one of the most pleasant writer's rooms I've ever been in. It is so much fun. Everybody likes everybody, everybody is friends, there's no politics and that is unusual on a set. So it's a little bit like a cocktail party every day.
Paul Lieberstein: (on worrying The Office would be canceled in the first season) I think that it went past fear into possibly an expectation. I honestly felt more delighted that we were getting to do another six episodes of the highest quality thing I ever worked on. It was like a treat and that America was getting it at all was awesome.
