American-born leading and supporting actor Paul Mantee started 'pretending' to act like Humphrey Bogart and numerous other film stars and it was his own decision to take on an acting career. Usually playing tough guy roles, Mantee first major film role was the lead in Paramount's 1964 science fiction film "Robinson Crousoe on Mars" and then played the lead in the spy film "A Man Called Dagger". Although Mantee is primarly known for his role in "Robinson Crousoe on Mars", he's also been in a slew of well known motion pictures such as "They Shoot Horses Don't They?", "Day of the Animals", "The
… More Manitou" and "The Great Santini". He also co-starred in the 1975 NBC docu-drama "Helter Skelter". In the mid 80's, Mantee was a frequent co-star on TV's "Cagney and Lacy" playing Detective Coressa. Mantee has also wrote several amusing TV Guide articles and has since retired.
