Paul as the Captain began doing TV appearances with The Wiggles in 1998.
Paul developed his tumbling, unicycle riding, and juggling skills from circus training classes at WAAPA.
Paul met and became friends with Wiggles founder Anthony Field when Anthony rented out a spare apartment room to Paul's girlfriend and cast mate back when he was acting in West Side Story. In 1993, Paul helped Anthony Field with various Wiggles stage roles when Anthony had an operation and was out for five weeks. He played the Blue Wiggle, Captain Feathersword, Dorothy the Dinosaur, and Wags the Dog. He was later offered the Captain's part.
Paul and Hugh Jackman were students at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), located in Perth. Paul joined a year before Hugh, and they both auditioned for the role of Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, of which Hugh won.

Before hooking up with The Wiggles, Paul had performed with the Victorian State production tour in the musical, West Side Story, and also had a lead role in the Victorian State Opera production of Don Quixote.

Paul married Charmaine Martin in March 2004. Charmaine played one of the pirate gals in the early Wiggles TV series. Their son, Connor, was born in February 2005.
