    • In a primetime special, Dr. Phil helped Paula Abdul learn how to engage in and sustain a healthy relationship.

    • When the Federal Trade Commission began investigating the weight loss claims of Dr. Phil's supplements, he had them taken off the market. He is facing a class action lawsuit by users of the supplements who claim that they did not help them lose weight.

    • Dr. Phil's psychological approach is to use Behavior Modification Therapy, which differs from traditional therapy that seeks to find the reason psychological problems happen to a person.

    • Dr. Phil was reprimanded by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists in 1988 for hiring a client. In addition, the 19 year old client claimed that McGraw carried on a sexual relationship with her, which he denied. He was required to take ethics classes which he did not complete, instead opting to found Courtroom Sciences, inc.
