Philip Ober was an American actor that was born on March 23, 1902 in Fort Payne, Alabama. He had a strong talent for comedic timing and worked well with other actors of the time period. Ober got his first taste of acting in the film Chloe, Love Is Calling You portraying the character of "Jim." One of his most notable roles in film was in Alfred Hitchcock's film North by Northwest, where he played the UN Ambassador. Ober did have some recurring roles in sitcoms such as McHale's Navy, but he mainly focused on film. Ober's second wife was Vivian Vance, known for her role as Ethel on the television show I Love Lucy. Ober often felt overshadowed by Vance's more illustrious career and had a tendency to spend a lot of her money. This ultimately lead to their divorce. Sadly, in 1982 Ober died of a sudden heart attack while working in Mexico City, Mexico.
