Ralph Brown was born in Cambridge, England, on June 18, 1957. Brown has earned awards for his writing abilities in film and theater. In 1987, his play Sanctuary won the Samuel Beckett Award in England. In 1989, the play traveled to the United States as Sanctuary DC where it was nominated for two Helen Hayes Awards. In 2001, Brown won the Raindance Film Festival and Sappro Film Festival awards for his screenplay New Year's Day. Brown has appeared in well-known films such as Amistad with Russell Crowe, The Contractor with Wesley Snipes, and Dark Tide with Halle Berry. In his spare time, Brown plays in a Beach Boys tribute band called the Brighton Beach Boys. Brown plays the saxophone and the keyboards for the band. The Brighton Beach Boys have played at the Brighton Festival Fringe for several years. In 2007, the band earned the Festival's Argus Angel Award. Brown occasionally plays saxophone in a David Bowie Tribute Band called Absolute Bowie.
