Raoul Walsh, born March 11, 1887, was a Hollywood director for 52 years (1913-1964). He was also an actor and a writer. He specialized in action adventures and stories of men at war, an excellent example of which was film adaptation of
Norman Mailer's first book,
The Naked and the Dead (1958).
