Ray Walston

Ray Walston was a consumate actor that had the misfortune to be typecast during a period when it was even harder than now to break a mold. Uncle Martin, arrived just in time for the 1960's space race and plus there were those antennas........Novel, without a doubt, but a trademark not going anywhere, anytime soon. Walston, commented that he didn't work for three years after, "My Favorite Martian", and his career was harmed for years, by the characterization. However, we might never have noticed Walston, without Martin, so as always, this is a double-edged sword. Besides, I always remember Mr.Walston, as Mr.Hand from "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". Martin would have run back to Mars, rather than take on the chiddings of Mr.Hand!!!
