It seems to me like 4 Golaiths up against 1 David. I just don't think RHCP is on the level that those 4 have established, they've all had number 1 hits except RHCP. They've all sold more albums than RHCP, especially Van Halen and Eagles. I think RHCP is good, but I just think they're nowhere near the best. The other 4 just have a certain awe that RHCP doesn't have I think. But anyway, my vote goes to Aerosmith.

You're both looking at it wrong, what matters is album sales, therefore, on paper The Eagles are the best.

Dear dear. It is pretty pathetic that the Chilis can't get a vote on their own board.

You're all looking at it wrong!  First of all, RHCP has the RECORD for most number ones with 10!!!  Second of all, RHCP has two votes, tied for first.  THIRD of all, they're rated low because so few people have voted, and a couple people don't like them, and took it extreme, with a 1.0.

And RHCP has sold 60 million copies!  The other bands may have sold more, but why?  THEY'VE BEEN AROUND FOR 20 YEARS LONGER!!!!!!  It's simple.

Another record! RHCP, at one venue, over three nights, raised $17,000,000!  That's a record!  And Tweek, I'm not mad at you, but please check for accuracy when you say something (saying RHCP has no # 1s).

Well you are wrong about some things. lol. Aerosmith was around longer than RHCP. They've been here since 1973, and they toured in 2000 and even had a number 1 in 1998. The Eagles were also around longer I believe. I think they are still touring. When I think of the BEST rock bands, I think of Aerosmith and Van Halen. I think of Zeppelin and Floyd, Beatles and Stones, The Who and The Doors. I just don't think of RHCP. I just don't think that they have any song which are rated by the general consensus as some of "the best ever." Van Halen - Jump, Dreams, Running With The Devil, Why Can't This Be Love
The Doors - Riders On The Storm, Light My Fire, Peace Frogs
Aerosmith - Dream On, Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way
Eagles - Hotel California, Life in the Fastlane, Dust In the Wind
Red Hot Chili Peppers - ?????

And will people listen to RHCP 10, 15 years from now, we dont know. But we already know that people still listen to the other 4 bands, 20, 30, even 40 years after their time.

RHCP- Under the Bridge, Scar Tissue, Give it Away, I Could Have Lied, Breaking the Girl, Suck My Kiss, etc.

Here's a list of all their awards:

BTW: They are nominated for six different Grammys this year!

And here's where it says they have the most #1's

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hot_Chili_Peppers

And while I do agree that RHCP is not among Beatles, Stones, and Halen, they are among U2, Aerosmith, and others.  They have mass popularity, and tons of skill.  Here's some more links of their success:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadium_Arcadium

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Californication_%28album%29

It's just so painfully obvious they're among the greatest!  They are within the Top 50 Bands ever, if not Top 30, which they more likely are in.

And about the RHCP most number ones, they hav the most number ones on the Rock Songs Top 100 list. Not the Bilboard Hot 100. The rock songs list only included rock songs and that list was only started in the late 80s. If it had started in the 60s, It is almost certain that Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Floyd, Doors, The Who and various other bands would have had more number ones.

Probably, but you have to keep in mind the fact that this does say, that from the '80s to present day, that still means RHCP has been the top.

But you're forgetting Van Halen and Nirvana both of whom did not last quite as long as RHCP but both of whom still you must admit were overall better bands. If you count solo artists too, Springsteen tops everybody and Billy Joel, Tom Petty, and Jimi Hendrix are up there too. I could have included more great bands, but I could only fit 5. There's also Lynyrd Skynyrd and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Although the Chili Peppers great longevity is topped only by The Rolling Stones.

Oh yeah!  My bad.  But can you please just admit that RHCP is ONE of the greatest bands of the past 20 years?  Yes yes, as I said, I know they aren't Beatles, Stones ,or Zeppelin, but they are my favorite and are very good.  I mean all the members are in the Top 100 (Frusciante #18, Kiedis about #80, Flea #11, Chad Smith about #95) of their instrument for all time!  I wanna keep this discussion friendly however  !

I know I know. I don't mean to start an argument. Yes they are one of the best since 1980, in fact theres only about 3 or 4 I'd put before them in terms of overall quality. And when it comes to Alternative, I guess they are basically the golden standard, even though Alternative was never really my thing.
