Angela and Hodgins wake up to find a corpse dangling in the canopy of their bed and they soon discover that it was planned by Pelant, who has come back for revenge. Hodgins wants to go after him head on, but Booth tries to convince him that he should work within the system. Later, the Jeffersonian team discovers that the corpse belongs to a Special Forces agent who worked for the largest supplier of mercenaries and Angela and Hodgins decide to start an investigation of their own without the help of the team to protect their family.

Jim's investigation into the death of his favorite food truck's owner puts him in the middle of a political battle. Jennifer takes a special and intrusive interest in Jim's cases. Callie's not having much luck dealing with Miranda's hostility.

Jared has to be a small claims court judge in order to get rid of a citation, and he makes a ruling that doesn't go over well with the rock and roll community, Jared and his dad battle and over the case of the rock and roll icon. Infeled tries to clear his spiritual adviser from the charge of fraud.

Jared and Peter run into two lawyers defending one of infled ex–wives. Jared and Peter notice a lot of themselves in the two lawyers against whom they must prove that the ex-wife didn't kidnap a dog.

Karp must work with Pindar on a robbery case, but it may not be solved because the partnership could be broken due to Pindar's odd quirks.

Jared and Peter get their first manslaughter case but they have to figure out why someone who wants to be a crime fighter would chase a man down after he's dead.Peter's mom has news that will surprise to him. Pindar gets help in conquering his phobias.

Peter and Jared to go all out to get a beverage executive as their next client but as usual bad luck is not far behind and could cost them this client as well as a possible promotion. Peter is smitten with a police officer.

Christopher Pelant's appeal of his verdict goes to trial, and Booth and Brennan do everything they can to keep him behind bars. But a new murder with ties to Pelant that the team hopes will put him permanently in prison takes a nasty twist that puts Brennan's freedom in jeopardy.

Meanwhile, Gabrielle is furious with Carlos when he tries to poach one of her rich, personal shopper clients and talk her into helping with his newly formed charity organization, and Renee discovers that Ben is keeping a secret from her about his involvement with Bree - and the body found at his work site.
