It's great to have a board just for posting about Richard. This will be the perfect place to post stuff about his other projects and random things fans like to talk about related to The belz like his dogs and his books and stuff like that

ABout 20 years ago Richard belzer hosted a talk show on cable TV called Hot Properties

Someone on the shows production staff got the bright idea that bringing on Mr T and Hulk Hogan right before some big wrestling match they were to be in would be good for the ratings. Well, to say that Belzer and the two wrestlers weren't exactly on the same wavelength would be putting it midly. Belzer could not take them seriously, at one point it was suggested that Hulk Hogan demonstrate a wrestling hold on Richard. OK now Richard Belzer is 6' 1" and weighs 150lbs while Hulk Hogan in his prime was like 6'7" and probably 300 lbs. Belzer was joking around and didn't realize Hogan had said to mr T he was going to make belzer squeal or something along that line. Anyway he put Belzer in a "sleeper hold" then after belzer passed out he let him go. Now that would have been fine, if they were in a wrestling ring with a padded floor or even if some pads had been brought in, but it was just a regular studio floor. Richard hit the floor and cracked his skull open, when he came to a few seconds later he popped right up and went to commercial. You could see blood on his shirt collar and jacket There's a video clip of it happening at

    http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2707142?showw=no&refsite=6721&htv=12&htv=12

He sued Hulk Hogan for $5 million, Hogan settled out of court with him and that's how Belzer managed to buy the cottage he and his wife live in in the south of France when he's not filming SVU. (His wife Harlee was in the audience the day he was hurt)

By the way he talks about that day on his album Another Lone Nut and it's hysterical (he does this whole thing about what he was thinking he wanted to say versus what he said and how when he was in the hospital he kept seeing repeats of his passing out and hiting the floor on ever channel). The man can really laugh at himself and situations.

I know. I'm reading his book UFOs, JFK, And Elvis: Consparicies You Don't Have To Be Crazy To Believe and he jokes about it. And yeah, Another Lone Nut is hilarious.

I love the fact that he can take it so lightly without getting all defensive about it. We all could learn a lesson from the Belz and laugh at things that happen to us. Although I'm sure it was very traumatic at the time.

I must say, he's quite sexy with his brunette hair...

I put his CD/book combo on my Amazon. com wish list, after hearing so much about it. He's extremely talented. And yes, very sexy hair he has -- it's even sexier now that it's more gray. He's stunning.

I'm also glad that 'the third time's the charm' and he's happily married to Harlee McBride. I hope their marriage goes the distance, since he's struck out a couple times before.

I'm a great fan of the Belz (and of Munch), so I'm also glad to see the board.  Now if we can just urge SVU producers to use Munch (and Fin) more than once every three months or so.  They're a very powerful presence on screen together.  Why they are so underused, is beyond me.  It's clear the producers know they're popular, they apparently just don't care.  If there's no room at SVU, maybe they should have their own L&O series.

Does any one know how he has been able to play Munch on five different TV shows (7 if you count the Law & Order franchises seperately). Does he own the rights to the character or what?
