    • In 1964, Richard became involved with the fight to allow African-Americans to register for the vote in Mississippi. He spent years working for the cause, and during his time in the state he helped to produce an award-winning documentary about "Freedom Summer" titled A Regular Bouquet: Mississippi Summer.
    • An avid photographer, Richard selected 50 of his photos from the set of Twin Peaks to be included as a gallery feature on the "Gold" definitive DVD box set of the series.
    • Richard was once a roommate and close friend of comedian Andy Kaufman. Richard videotaped a number of Andy's stand-up shows and helped to originate Andy's "Has-Been Corner" routine, which he used later in various TV specials.
