Richard Beymer was born in Avoca, Iowa and moved with his parents to Hollywood, California in the late 1940s. He acted in various films and television programs while attending North Hollywood High School, and continued making a name for himself in cinema until 1961 when he got his big break playing Tony in the film version of West Side Story. His career now spans more than 50 years, and he is perhaps best known for his role in West Side Story and his portrayal of the morally questionable landowner Benjamin Horne in the TV series Twin Peaks.
