When I was growing up I wasn't allowed to watch much TV, but nevertheless developed a strange fascination with Three's Company. Kline as Larry Dallas was perhaps my first introduction to the "sleazebag" archetype.
However, Kline also managed to give his character a lighter, more sensitive side. You could see underneath the hairy chest and gold chains that Larry was actually a child who lacked self confidence. Kline managed this duality quite well in his portrayal of Larry Dallas (or "LD" as I used to call him).
