Rick Carlisle, born in October of 1959, played in the NBA for over half a decade in the 1980's, and even won a championship with the Boston Celtics. He averages 2.2 points per game in his career, so he's not really known much for achievements as a player, but has been a great head coach in the National Basketball Association. He coached the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons to conference championship series and NBA Finals appearances. He didn't win in the Finals, but was still a great coach. He was part of the ESPN crew in the late 2000's before taking over as the Dallas Mavericks' head coach entering the 2008-2009 season. He recovered from a 2-7 start to finish 50-32, sixth in the west. He advanced to the semi-finals after defeating the third-seeded Spurs in five games, only to lose to the Nuggets in the five-game second-round series. He may not of won a championship that year, but he got Dallas got out of the first round, something they hadn't done for the past two years. In the 2009-2010 season, he started 22-7 with the Mavericks, and coached the Mavs through a double-digit win streak beginning one game after the All-Star Break. So overall, he's a great man, a great head coach, and I'm glad he's the head coach of my favorite team, the Dallas Mavericks.
