Rita Moreno

Rita was a cast member of the Children's Television Workshop show "The Electric Company." Her catch phrase was, "Hey You Guys!!!!." She was a cast member with Morgan Freeman, Jr.

When her star was unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she fell on top of it, openly and uncontrollably weeping. She later commented, "I had been dreaming of this day since I was six!"

In 1945, Rita landed her first movie role in A Medal for Benny. She was fourteen years old at the time.

At the age of seventeen, at the request of MGM studio, Rosita shortened her name to Rita, and decided to use the surname of her mother's third husband, Moreno.

Rita moved to New York at the age of five.

Eva Longoria once said that Rita was her role model while growing up.

Rita Moreno holds the distinct honor of having won an Academy Award (supporting actress in West Side Story), an Emmy (guest actress on The Rockford Files), a Grammy (children's recording for the Electric Company album) and a Tony (supporting actress for The Ritz). She is one of three actresses to have won all four awards (Helen Hayes and Audrey Hepburn). In addition to these awards she has also been awarded a Golden Globe (supporting actress in West Side Story) and a BAFTA, the award for achievement in British film and theatre (for The Ritz).
