Trivia and Quotes

  • Quotes

    • River: I would rather quit while I was ahead. There's no need in overstaying your welcome.

    • River: If I have some celebrity, I hope I can use it to make a difference. The true social reward is that I can speak my mind and share my thoughts about the enviroment and civilisation itself. There's so much shit happening with people who are exploiting their positions and creating a lot of negativity.

    • River: I want kids, a family of my own. I'd like to give them the first eight years of their lives in the country. Then I'd want them educated, which I wasn't formally, although I had a tutor once when I was twelve. At times I miss a formal education, but at others I thank God for everything else I have now. What I have got from my childhood aren't toys, but memories. And happy memories are better than any toy.

    • River: I project a definite innocence. A lot of that is just the way I grew up.

    • River (about "Stand by Me"): I realized that what I was creating was going to live on far longer than anything of me as a person. The characters are more powerful than the person that creates them.

    • River: I would get songs sung to me, like 'Old Man River, 'or kids would call me Mississippi and things like that. At the time, I wished I had a name that blended in more with my surroundings. Now, though, I've really learned to love it. From fifteen, I really liked it. It felt appropriate. Before that, I don't think it quite fitted me. I had to grow into it.

    • River (from The Animals' Voice Magazine - 1989): We need an extreme movement because what is happening to animals is so extreme. Some misinformed people claim that animal rights activists are terrorists, but these people are simply ignorant of who the real terrorists are - the companies and industries that torture literally billions of animals each year.

    • River (about his interpretation of Indiana Jones): I would just look at Harrison: he would do stuff and I would not mimic it, but interpret it younger. Mimicking is a terrible mistake that many people make when they play someone younger, or with an age difference. Mimicking doesn't interpret true because you can't just edit it around.

    • River: Everything is ironic to me. There are moments I find hysterical, but I'm probably the only one who would find that, except for a few people.

    • River: I like girls who are natural because I am natural in everything I do. If I meet a girl who is snobby and wants special treatment, she's not going to get it from me because she hasn't earned it. But I've been basically lucky because I've met mostly nice girls - and that's what attracts me.

  • River Phoenix was a famous actor from the 1980s. He started acting as a child at about the age of 15, and he has attained lots of popularity as he continued to star in films, such as Stand By Me and Indiana Jones. He sadly died in 1993 from an overdose.moreless

I didn't know much about River Phoenix until now. As I read numorous biographies about him, I noticed that he was in some of the movies I've seen or heard of in my life, and I started to become interested in him. I was so surprised to see that he played Chris Chambers in Stand By Me. I couldn't believe it. I was impressed by his acting, but was sad to see that he died from a drug overdose in 1993, at the age of 23. It hurt me to see that he died at such a young age, and I wish I could've done something to go back and stop him. If I could go back in time, I would've tried to save him, and anyone else who had died around his age. He died three years after I was born. Today, I intend to watch more of his films and continue to read about him. My favorite films of him so far are Stand By Me and Indiana Jones, and I liked scenes of him in the unfinished film known as Dark Blood. He also reminds me of a sort of knight or prince character, probably because of how he looks. Overall, I miss him, and I wish I could've met him before he died. R.I.P. River Phoenix. You are missed, and will never be forgotten.moreless
  • God I loved River Phoenix so much. Such an increadable talent taken way to soon. I think had he not died he could have been a big star.

I loved River Phoenix ever since I saw him in Stand By Me. He added alot of heart and depth to what could have been a totally one dimensonal child role. He followed it up with his oscar nomintaed role in Running On Empty which is probley my favorite River Role. He went on to do My Own Private Idaho which while the movie was just ok River was fantastic in it. Wacthing his movies make me so sad at the wonderful potential he could have had. He was so good looking and such a great talent and I still miss him and am sad we never got to see River and his brother Joaguin Phoenix star in a movie together.

    R.I.P River-Love you.moreless
