Robert Carlyle

4/14/1961 , Glasgow, Scotland, UK

Birth Name

Carlyle's mother left him when he was four, leaving his father Joseph to raise him in Maryhill, Scotland. He enrolled in acting classes in 1982 and within a matter of years became one of Britain's most talented (if unappreciated) actors.

After landing a small role in Silent Scream (1990), Carlyle began developing a large body of work, appearing in the TV series' Cracker (in a guest appearance as depressed socialist/serial killer Albie Kinsella), which is considered his breakthrough role; and Hamish Macbeth (in the title role), long with a growing number of films (including the controversial Priest and Trainspotting), before his award-winning (and probably most famous) role as "Gaz" Schofield in The Full Monty. He also won acclaim for his roles in Angela's Ashes and super-terrorist Renard in The World Is Not Enough.

In 2009, Robert was cast in Stargate Universe as Dr. Nicholas Rush.

Robert is married to Anastasia Shirley, and they have three children: Ava (b. 2002), Harvey (b. 2004) and Pearce (b. 2006).
